Asakusa is the heart of old Tokyo (shitamachi), located in Taito ward on the western bank of the Sumida River. The neighborhood is anchored by Senso-ji, Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple, and Nakamise-dori, a 250-metre shopping street that has served pilgrims since the Edo period. Just across the river, Tokyo Skytree dominates the skyline.
